Sunscreen is a band from Sydney’s Inner West. Composed of Sarah Sykes (Flowertruck), Alexander McDonald and Hugo Levingston, Sunscreen’s emotional guitar-pop has drawn comparison to The Pretenders and Mazzy Star.
Sunscreen started when Sarah Sykes invited Alexander McDonald and Hugo Levingston over for a jam. She was too scared to show her songs (or idea for a band name) to anyone else. Through the Summer of 2016 the trio wrote their first songs in Sarah’s sweaty Newtown garage. Fast-forward to now, with the addition of Jett Amity on bass and dreamy backing vocals, Sunscreen are ready to deliver ultimate UV protection for the emotions and soul.
In 2017 alone, the band supported promising acts including The Ocean Party, Rolling Blackouts C.F, Totally Mild, Shining Bird, The Orwells and Jade Imagine. The band also supported DMA’s for their Dawning single launch at Paddington Town Hall and RVG for their A Quality of Mercy tour at Oxford Art Factory, with headline shows accompanying the launch of their debut EP, Just a Drop, which was released in November 2017 through Spunk Records/Dinosaur City Records.
