FAQs

Q. Where is the festival?
A. GMF is smack-bang in the middle of the beautiful township of Halls Gap in the Grampians National Park in western Victoria. We call the festival site the Valley Floor, and it’s incredible – 360° mountain, bush and cliff views.

Q. When is the festival?
A. GMF runs from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 February 2019.

Q. What times are the bands on?
A. Friday night runs from 5pm to 11.30pm, Saturday goes from 12 noon to 11.30pm and Sunday’s line-up runs from 12 noon to 11.30pm.

Q. How many stages, and how many performers will you have?
A. There will be 20 amazing artists performing on one stage. No timetable conflicts, no racing from stage to stage, no missing out on anything.

Q. What is the ethos behind the festival?
A. The idea behind our festival is simple – we want to create a special music festival in a very special part of the world, the Grampians. The people behind GMF are locals who love the environment they live in. GMF is always going to stay small, fun, friendly and relaxed with an awesome all Australian line-up. In our first year, we’re limiting tickets to just 1,500. We don’t want our guests fighting for a spot to stand or waiting hours for the loo. Most importantly, we want a festival with a small footprint. The Grampians deserves a festival that cares about the impact it has on its natural surroundings so we have set out to create a small, intimate, fun festival in a beautiful place.

Q. Who is running the festival?
A. GMF is being run by an incorporated committee made up of passionate local people who love music, love getting people together to have fun, and love showing off the Grampians. We are being supported by some amazing people at Northern Grampians Shire Council, and Grampians Tourism, who are doing a lot of work behind the scenes to help us get up and running. Q. Is GMF kid friendly?
A. Yes, absolutely! It’s so kid-friendly in fact, that children under 14 are free. Everyone else needs to have a ticket, of course, and under 16s must be accompanied by a legal guardian at all times.

Q. How do I get to Halls Gap?
A. Halls Gap is an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne but there is also a train and connecting bus service from Melbourne and Ballarat (check out the V-Line website for timetables). If you’re coming from Melbourne, just take the Western Highway towards Ballarat, taking the highway around Ballarat. Then keep going until you hit Ararat and follow the signs to the Grampians National Park and Halls Gap. If you’re interested in car pooling, let other people know in our Facebook group!

If you want to travel in style, the nearby town of Stawell even has a small airport!

Ticket stuff

Q. When do tickets go on sale?
A. Early bird ticket sales start on Thursday 13 September 2018 with full-price sales starting on 31st October.

Q. How much are tickets?
A. Here’s the short version:

  • 3-day ticket for Friday, Saturday and Sunday – $179 + GST and BF
  • 2-day ticket for Saturday and Sunday – $159 + GST and BF
  • 1-day ticket for Friday night – $40 + GST and BF

(Please note – there are no concessions or discounts on tickets.)

Q. Is camping included in the ticket price?
A. There’s no camping at the festival site, but there are plenty of accommodation options, including camp sites, right in Halls Gap, just a short walk from the festival site. There’s more info about accommodation here. We have also partnered with the lush Halls Gap Gardens to offer you a great camping option that you can purchase when you buy your tickets.

Q. How do I buy tickets?
A. Tickets are only available online. Just click HERE and Bob’s your uncle.

Q. What are your terms and conditions of ticket purchases?
A. So you REALLY want to read the fine print? OK, you’ll find it on our Eventbrite page. (Please note that the terms and conditions and all festival policies also apply to people under 18.)

Food, shelter and stuff

Q. What kinds of accommodation options are available in Halls Gap?
A. You can purchase a camping partner package for Halls Gap Gardens when you buy your festival ticket. Otherwise, there’s an accommodation option to suit every budget in our town and surrounds. We have everything from backpackers’ hostels to B&Bs, budget motels, self-contained holiday houses, bush and caravan park camping, glamping and luxury accommodation. Visit the Visit Grampians website or TripAdvisor to have a look at your options. For bush camping sites (note – you will need to book for some spots), check the Parks Victoria website.

Q. Is BYO allowed at GMF?
A. No, but we’ll have a bar stocked with an ample supply of alcoholic beverages for your enjoyment including some of our amazing local Grampians wines. Did you know shiraz is our speciality?

Q. What kinds of food will be available at the festival?
A. There will be plenty of food vendors on site to stave off your hunger in the Valley Floor site during performances. There will be more information about food options closer to the event.

Q. Where else can we eat in Halls Gap?
A. There are plenty of other restaurants, cafes, take-away options and two pubs in Halls Gap, and a supermarket if you want to buy your own food and self-cater.

Services, facilities and other stuff

Q. What kinds of services and other facilities are there in Halls Gap?
A. Halls Gap has a small supermarket, a chemist, an ATM, a service station and several bottle shops. The town of Stawell is about 25km away and also has a post office, hospital, medical clinic, chemists, bigger supermarkets and retail shops.

Q. What’s the mobile reception like?
A. Welcome to regional Australia. Mobile reception can be a bit frustrating at times, especially if you are not with Telstra. That said, we have been promised an upgrade to services which should be in place by the time the Festival rolls around. However, we would recommend planning a meeting point, because when Halls Gap gets busy, mobile networks often struggle to keep up with the network load.

Q. What else is there to do in Halls Gap and the Grampians?
A. HEAPS! Bush walking, animal watching, picnicking, fishing, sight-seeing, boating, fossicking, wine touring, star gazing … the list goes on. The Halls Gap Visitor Information Centre is a great place to get more info, or visit these local websites:

Stuff for performers and vendors

Q. I’m a music artist and want to perform at the festival. Who do I contact?
A. While the line-up for 2019 has already been finalised, we are still taking registrations for our Emerging Artists stage this year. This is for people who would like to join in the atmosphere of the Festival and play at an Open Mic stage in Halls Gap township. If you are interested, please apply here.

Q. What about 2020? Can I perform then?
A. If you would like to express your interest to play in 2020, please send your band’s details, including a demo, to info@grampiansmusicfestival.com.

Q. I’m a business / market stall / food vendor wanting to sell my goods at GMF. How do I go about doing that?

Q. I’m a journalist / media outlet and want to do a story on GMF. Who do I speak to?
